This sounds wonderful. I applaud Idaho for passing Senate Bill 1336 and for Rep. Erhardt for presenting it. It gives me hope.
Today, Idaho's students test nationally at level 40 of 50 States according to "CRITICAL THINKING ABOUT K - 12 EDUCATION." This is unacceptable.
I urge all Legislators, as well as Idaho residents, to check out "the Mississippi Miracle." Learn how that State, which was chronically LAST in every survey on education, with a habit of simply passing student on to the next grade anyway, changed it all and now they sit at number 16 in the Nation! AND THEY DID NOT DO IT WITH MORE MONEY!!! Read that again -- $$$$$ did not fix their problems! If Mississippi can do it, Idaho can, too! Sounds like we may be off to a good start.
Truth and true civics have not been part of the curriculum for decades, so what about teachers that have been indoctrinated in the government schools. Are they going to do an honest job of teaching truth when they believe the opposite?
Wow! Thank you and rep Erhardt. All public servants must be tested in western civics, State and Constitutional laws before entering public service jobs and tested annually to hold that job. The pledge of allegence to our flag must be mandatory for every classroom across our State. We are so grateful for your common sense leadership.
These requirements are wonderful. Why was this not already being taught, rather than the decades of nonsense? It seems like the Hillsdale curriculum would be a great place to start. It's my guess that most, if not all, of the current texts for teaching government will need to be put in the burn barrel.
Not sure why you state that Common Core Curriculum was “snuck in.” That’s not accurate. There were state and local district committees who worked on those curriculum standards over a long period of time. Those committees included teachers, parents, and school board members, along with state and local administrators. There were also many news articles and discussions throughout the long process. Many of the ideas in SB 1336, such as teaching civics, government and history, are already required. People need to compare current curriculum standards along side SB 1336 before blindly saying they agree or disagree with the Bill. As an elected Idaho leader please stop bashing the education system and totally blaming teachers. They are teaching and the rest of us need to be supporting of learning. It works both ways.
Ahh yes, Heather Scott, Idaho representative, watched a portion of the prank show “Fameless” where the prank was people eating composted humans via composite added to veggie gardens. She didn’t finish the show, thereby did not learn it was a prank. Then she introduced a bill.
She isn’t known for researching topics which is clearly shown in her comments about Common Core.
I'm excited to read about what Might happen in our schools. I'll believe it when I see it. We have lost years of quality education, it will cost us. The only way this will work is to get rid of a bunch of non-educators that have been doing mega damage to our country.

Money is not the problem. Starts with the same letter but is spelled morality. Too many socialists in our schools.
