We are now entering the final leg of the 2025 legislative session. Over 650 pieces of legislation have been introduced, debated, and either died or moved into the final stages of becoming law. As of today, almost 100 bills have been signed by the Governor or adopted into law. If you haven’t been watching the activity, I encourage you to visit the Legislative Website to watch live or archived floor and committee meetings or testify on Zoom on certain bills. Here is the LINK. If you just want the highlights, consider following my Twitter.
Idaho Freedom Caucus members have had a very successful session so far and many of our proposed pieces of legislation to repeal code or help citizens are still actively making their way through committees and onto the House or Senate floors for debate.
Members have carried or co-sponsored key legislation including grocery tax credit increase, the Anti-SLAPP bill (strategic lawsuits against public participation), property tax relief, anti mask legislation, adoption reform, and many other pieces of legislation. It’s been amazing to work with this group of legislators and I appreciate their dedication to the citizens of Idaho and their professionalism.
I am personally carrying about 10 pieces of legislation. One that I am hoping to get a hearing on in the Senate soon is my flag bill (H96), which would allow counties, cities and other governments offices to only fly certain official flags: their official government entity flag, the American Flag, military flags, the POW/MIA Flags, or official flags of Indian tribes. I am having trouble securing a Senate hearing in committee but am hopeful to get this legislation to the Senate floor soon.
I was honored and humbled to be invited to be a panel member at a recent event in Philadelphia with other conservative legislators from around the country, including Senator Brain Lenney. We discussed conservative viewpoints related to law making and navigating the everchanging political landscape. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase Idaho’s successful Republican efforts and strategies to keep Idaho red and conservative. I was also able to see Independence Hall for the first time and get a greater appreciation for the incredible efforts our founding fathers put forth to establish our Republic. My substitute did an excellent job voting in my place for the two days I was gone. I trained him right!
As we wind down the 2025 legislative session, it’s important to remember that many of the new laws will go into effect on July 1st, meaning the benefits (or impacts) can be seen in the very near future. We are hoping citizens’ will be encouraged with the conservative legislators’ efforts this session. It has been the most successful session I have witnessed since my start. I know I can say with confidence we have worked diligently and put many long hours in drafting and crafting legislation that addresses citizens’ concerns and attempts to make life better here in Idaho and protect individuals from government overreach.
You can expect a year end summary with more details of wins and losses as soon as session is over, which will hopefully be in 2-3 weeks. I look forward to sharing more details on Idaho’s biggest tax relief package in decades!
In liberty,
Rep. Heather Scott
